Tuesdays Touring Newnan - City Of Homes

Please click on "The Daily Puppy". It generates a small donation to the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society. We hope to build a No Kill Shelter soon.

This Tuesday I'd like to introduce you to the people who make everything happen in Newnan. I was invited down to the Employee Appreciation Luncheon given by City Hall to recognize all the hard work that makes our town run so smoothly. The officials were having a big cookout with all the trimmings!! The City of Newnan always recognizes and encourages an atmosphere of community amongst our town's people who always work so hard to make our fair city a better place to live and work. They treat each and every individual in our town like family which makes Newnan, Georgia the best place on earth to live........this is God's Country!!

Come on, let's go............****(NOTE - Please click on the first couple of pictures to see them.....my blogger power had a little uploading "issue" this morning)******................

I met my hostess for the day, Linda, at the Office of Business Development and Main Street to stroll on over to the cook-out.............

The city employees enjoying their lunch. All the policemen, firemen, every worker of every department was invited...........

This is sweet Ms. Tracy Dunnavant our City Planner..........

The beautiful Ms. Ellen Crawford from our Building Department........

Mike Furbush of the City Of Newnan Beautification Department......he makes sure our town looks beautiful all of the time...........

Cleatus Phillips, Director of Community Development was grilling a few burgers.......

Jimmy Hemming of the Cemetary Department. He makes sure our historic cemetaries in town look fabulous every day............

No cookout around here would be complete without a nice big bowl of peach cobbler!! This stuff was amazing.......I think I ate TWO bowls...........

This is Bob Coggin one of our City Councilmen and our Chief of Police Buster Meadows. They were telling me that they grew up together and have known each other all of their lives. I go to church with Buster and work on our churche's transportation committee with him. He makes things happen at our church as well as in our fair city. He's a super nice guy and hey, it always pays to know the Chief of Police, lol...........

This is George Alexander, another of our City Councilmen........

This is our wonderful mayor Keith Brady doing a little grill time. You hear nothing but good things about our mayor and he's loved by everyone...........

This is Mr. Hank from the City Of Newnan shop. He helped me move a couple of things that I was trying to move by myself. Who says there aren't many gentlemen left?? In my town, chivalry lives........Thanks Hank!!...........

I had a wonderful time at the Employee Appreciation Cookout. I knew so many people there and met some new people who were all so friendly, welcoming and of course super nice. I hope I get invited next year (hint, hint Linda) so I can meet more of the people who make Newnan the beautiful and special place that it is..........it's like one big family. Come on down and visit us sometime. We'll roll out the red carpet for you and treat you like family as well. Heck, we might even make you some peach cobbler.

Tuesdays Touring Newnan, City Of Homes

******PLEASE remember to click on the DAILY PUPPY******

Welcome to Newnan, Georgia....City of Homes! Did you know that the entire South is larger than Europe and as diverse....a conglomeration of distinctly differing regions? Big towns, in between size towns and small towns. I love them all.

I especially love my town of Newnan, Georgia where the sweet-smeling aroma of vines, magnolia's and gardenia's fill the air and petals of these flowers float in bowls on dinner tables. We put up tomatoes for tomatoe relish that we pick from around tangles of zucchini vines and wild onions grow on tall stalks.

If you live in Newnan it is part of your soul. It becomes a part of you that you can't change......you wouldn't want to.......

Spring flower's outside Murphy's Florist........

On LaGrange Street, Luke Headley Investments, Brooks and Lucy's.......

The bell ourside the Male Academy Museum..........

M Nicole Designs, where everything is unique and so cute. I often pick up gifts in this shop..........

Hit the Trail hiking gear. If you need something for your outdoor adventure you can be sure that they've got it.........

A mural painted on a brick wall in town..........

Heritage Quilts and Fabric...such beautiful bolts of fabric fill this shop from floor to ceiling. A quilter's delight........

An upclose snap I took of a beautiful handmade quilt hanging on the wall in Heritage Quilts and Fabric. Notice the fresh cut flowers. A lady who works there told me that she had cut them out of her front yard yesterday morning.......

Our historic Hersh Building.........

This is our Historic courthouse on Court Square in downtown Newnan being restored. During the Civil War this was converted into a hospital for wounded soldiers......

An up close snap of the top of the courthouse. The top is being re-coppered. I love to be uptown when that big clock strikes the hour chimes.......

A produce stand on the side of the road off of Highway 16. Mr Vernon, that's him peeking out beside his truck door, sells these goodies out of the back of his red pick up truck. I've never gotten anything there that wasn't delicious.........

This is one of my favorite houses in town. I drive by this house all of the time and am always struck by the beauty of it's stained glass windows and charm.....

Thanks for having a little stroll through my town with me. Perhaps you'd like to come visit (Bagman?????). Market Day's have started on the square in downtown Newnan. Local vendor's line the courthouse square with all kinds of wares.....homemade jewelry, pottery, art work, confections, sweet kettle corn. Mainstreet Newnan sponsor's Market Days the first Saturday of every month. Prince and I love to go walk about and see what treasure's we can find. We always bump into an old friend or two and stop for a chat amidst friendly faces. Come see us in Newnan..............you won't want to leave.

Tuesdays Touring Newnan.....City Of Homes

It's Tuesday and one of my favorite days of the week because I get to take you on a tour of Newnan with me.

This is such a beautiful place to live. So many homes have porch swings and rocker's. In the summer I love the sweet smell of magnolias and gardenias and the wonderful smell dinner cooking wafting through screened doors and windows.

Beautiful dogwoods, azaleas and redbirds greet me each morning where I can sit outside eight months of the year and drink sweet iced tea, lemonade or Coca~Cola from sweaty glasses, a product of the humidity that the South is famous for and that I've learned to cherish.

Come for a little walk with me and don't forget that you can click on to any of the snaps to get an up close and more intimate view ......

I love this rusty old grain silo surrounded by the stone wall.......

This piece is hanging by our own front door. I love this old topiary......

Martini nights at the Alamo.......They play drunken Bingo there sometimes (or so I've heard, lol). Hilarious of course............

This is Heavenly Laughter Daycare. Who would mind leaving their child at a place where angels work? I know these ladies and they are just that and will treat your sweet child like an angel as well...........

On old well turned planter........

A swing in someones front yard. You see lots of swings and rocker's in my town.......

An old rusty Coca~Cola sign for T&T Custom Cabinet shop from years ago........

This is an old store that I always think is so interesting. I always wonder who used to buy their flour and cornmeal in here. It has an old front porch and I always imagine men sitting around out front talking about the price of cotton and corn........

This is The Major Long House in downtown Newnan established in 1846. This place is known for it's beauty and history and has been awarded an Excellence in Historic Preservation award many times........

This is Bob Shapiro's place in town. He's the photographer extraordinaire.......

This is an old chimney that I often see in the woods. I always wonder who cooked their meals and kept warm with the fires that once burned in the fireplace. I don't know how old this is, but there's nothing much around it and it's managed to stay pretty well preserved...........

This is a really cool painted door that I spied in town the other day. I don't know who's reflection that is at the top left squatting down like that for a snapshot...
......

If you ever get the chance to come visit us in Newnan, let me know. I'll have a big welcoming committee to greet you and plenty of sweet tea and lemonade ready and waiting. This is my South and my hometown and I couldn't be prouder!!
