Saturdays Are For Just Chumping About

Saturday is here my friends and the weather is supposed to be splendid. It is supposed to be a beautiful and sunny 75 degrees. And to think that last Sunday it was snowing here in Newnan!

Today, Prince and I are working at the Rabies Clinic for tne Newnan-Coweta Humane Society. That's always a great afternoon and you meet so many nice pups, kittys' and their peeps. All of the other volunteers are super great people, many of whom we spend a lot of time outside of volunteering with because they're such great people.
Then we are going to till our organic garden again with a little horse poo. Can't get much more organic than that now can you? We get it from our friends the Foster Failures who are just the nicest people. The other gigi and her hunny Superfly are coming to help. It will be a great day and lots will be accomplished. Later this evening, we'll make a little Sangria and sit by the pool (although it's still covered) and just relax with friends after a long but wonderful day.

More signs of Spring........

A sign for tomatoes that will soon be ripening in the sun.......

A beautiful little patch of purple pansies that I spied this week.......

A beautiful bed of multi colored pansies with a funky orange and blue fire hydrant that I saw Thursday. I love the fire hydrant. Who says they all have to be just boring red? I mean, don't get me wrong.....I like red, but I do love the way they have perked this particular one up and made it a little art deco looking.

This is our historic courthouse on the square in downtown Newnan. It was used as a hopital during the War Between The States. She's just stunning and they are going to recopper that old top. The top holds a old, old clock that chimes on the hour. I love to hear that old clock crying out the time while I'm out and about downtown.

And lastly, a sign that I saw at Alamo Jacks. Hmmmm....St. Patricks Day is right around the corner. #1 - check....#2 - check.....#3 check because if there's going to be dancing with leprechauns going on then Reggie Girl and Prince are sooo there!!! I wonder if it's going to be real leprechauns? Maybe it will just be short people painted green and dancing about (and no, I'm not making fun of short people because I am one of them). I wonder if leprechauns drink green beer? Green Beer has to be better for you than plain old regular colored beer because it must have veggies in it right? At least I tell myself that every year. I just hope that I can follow at least one of those leprechauns home so that I can find that pot of gold!!

Here's hoping that everyone has a fantastic weekend. I hope you and yours chump about and have a little love, joy and laughter. I take that back....make that I hope that you have an abundance of love, joy and laughter in your homes this weekend!!

Please Go To Church With Me

Friday is finally here and that makes it time for our first "Shoot-Out". Patty @Crisfield, Maryland and I started doing these last Friday and invited everyone to please join us for a bit of fun. We both love our home towns and we somehow know that we can't be the only ones who feel that way. I take a lot of pride in Newnan, Georgia. There is so much rich history here and some of my churches are shot in the Historic District.

I've always love to look at and in churches. Whenever I visit another town, their churches always catch my eye and my curiosity. I used to love to go to Saint Patrick's Cathedral in New York City and I also loved to go to Saint John The Baptist, the oldest Gothic church in the north. I always wonder what kinds of people go to these churches, what types of services they have and how they worship.
I love all churches.....the architecture, the big ones, the little ones, the old ones and the new ones.

Let's begin our little tour of Newnan churches.......

This is Parish Hall at The First Methodist Church in downtown Newnan.......

I loved this old wooden cross draped with the purple cloth. Purple is the color of royalty.........

This is an old wooden cross in the crossing yard between two churches downtown. These old crosses always attract my attention......

This is White Oak Baptist Church. I love the way it sits by the main road and the beauty in it's simplicity.........

I came across this little garden while at St. George Catholic Church on Highway 70. I love how the children are sitting down entranced by the story that Mary is telling them...........

The Holy Ghost Redeemer Church..........

I love this Grecian cross in a garden to the side of St. Lukes Episcopal Church....

This is St. George Catholic Church. Prince and I have worshipped in the church before. It is simply beautiful inside and the people are very reverent and so friendly.......

I couldn't possibly not spotlight some of the georgeous stained glass that graces many of the churches in this area. I love stained glass and I am always struck by it's beauty and the craftsmanship.......

This is a little church off Washington Street called Sword Of The Lord. The church is a small lovely little church, but it was the name that captured my attention.....

This is St. Lukes Episcopal Church.......

Macedonia Baptist Church.......

This is one of the First Baptist Church's in our downtown area. They are on differnt streets so I suppose they were the first one on that street. This of a very old church and I think that it's beautiful. I know many people who worship at this church and they all love it........

Another georgeous Baptist Church in downtown Newnan.....

First Methodist Church in historic downtown Newnan.......

A close up of the fine stained glass that I so love.

Now, Patty will accuse me of taking too many shots, but the fact is that I just find it so hard to choose between the snapshots. I love them all and trying to decide which ones will be posted and which ones won't present's a dilemna for me. They are all so beautiful in their very own way. I couldn't resist the shots of the crosses and the little prayer garden outside of Saint George. In case you couldn't tell, I'm a little awestruck at these beautiful churches and these are just a few that my beautiful town has to offer here in Newnan.

I hope that you will visit the local churches in your town. Go inside and worship....you're in for a pleasant day.

Thursday's....Bit of This, Bit of That

What a fantastic week I've been having. Busy yet peaceful. Productive yet quiet. Sunny days and warmer weather means that I can work more in my yard and garden, which I love.

I've learned this week that apparently all spending is stimulative. Calling this madness stimulative is a tad desperate don't you think? Okay, I'm going to get right off of that subject because if I think about it for too terribly long, it makes me a tad honery.

This is a picture May-May the panda that I took last summer at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washintgon D.C. It was a hot, hot day and her keeper had given her a frozen treat made of bits of fruit with pineapple juice. Look how sweet she looks! Made me want a Popsicle and I'm no Popsicle lover.

While out and about running errands on Tuesday, I saw this blackbird eating buns and bagels outside the Panera Bread On Bullsboro Drive. Shout out to the employees of Panera Bread for giving their day olds to the birdies for a treat.

A few intersting facts.......

**A deaf center-fielder for the Cincinatti Reds, William Hoy, created the signs for strikes and balls used in baseball today. (Speaking of baseball, I'm ready for Cousin 4's Rec Center baseball games to begin and for my beloved Atlanta Braves to start playing their home games).

**Leonard Da Vinci invented scissors.

**The oldest person to sign the Constitution was Benjamin Franklin at 81 years of age. The youngest was Jonathan Dayton of New Jersey at 26 years of age.

**Emily Dickinson, America's most famous female poet, published only seven of her poems during her lifetime. It was only after her death at age 56, that her almost 2000 poems were discovered and published.

**A cockroach can withstand 80 times more radiation that a human being. (I knew it!! Can anyone tell me what purpose a cockroach has? Does it have a purpose? Gross!! My ex-husband is a cockroach, but I digress..........)

Wednesday Brown Bag Lunches and Such

From now on my my house, Wednesday's will be know as "Brown Bag Lunch Day". The catering side of our little organic endeavor will be packing and delivering a nice, healthy, organic and delicious brown bag lunch to the kind folks that will order. Cooking for a crowd I can handle and I love to be creative with food. Seems, I'm not so hot at cooking for two. I just can't seem to get that right. I always make enough food for an army. So much that as a matter of fact, we can't face all of the leftovers. Anyway, that just gives us an excuse to practice one of our favorite hobbies...........dining out!!

The menu will be such as: Succulent Chicken Corn/Potato Chowder with Fresh Rosemary served with Sour Cream and Cheese Corn Muffins and Organic Low Sugar Cookies from Italy. I'm excited about the new branch of our little enterprise and I hope that it goes over well. Who says a brown bag lunch has to be boring? Not I.....

I saw this lovely willow tree while I was out and about running errands yesterday. I thought it was really pretty and upon close inspection, it is beginning to have a few small green buds trying to peek out and come to life. It's ready for Spring and so am I.

I couldn't not notice this charming little sigh. Propped up against the bike is the "Got Steak?" sign in front of Lenny's Pub at the intersection of Highway 29 and Roscoe Road. You can sing a little Karaoke, have a nice brew and apparently a nice big steak. Hmmm......Prince and I may have to mosey on in there one night for steak night.

Firefighter friend brought his new rescue pup, Gus, over for a little play date with little Sadie. They played and played until they both collapsed on the floor out like two little babies that had been playing out in the sun all day. Little Gus was even snoring which was just precious. Sadie slept all night long and didn't even seem to move. She's such a darling girl......all puppy.

Tuesdays Touring Newnan....City Of Homes......

Well, it's Tuesday again. I live in a part of what is know as the Southern Arc. There are so many things that I love about our town. Rolling hills, quiets evenings on the deck, broom sedge glistening in the morning sun, knowing people when you walk down the street or through the supermarket but mostly I love getting a friendly wave from people I know and even some that I don't know.

Come take a little stroll with me through Newnan..........

This is a opossum that graces my hearth. Gypsy Sista gave me this opossum and I promised "Midlife Trucker's Wife" that I would post it today. She has one as well...she must have a Gypsy Sista too.

Birdbaths in a garden with white picket fences (this written while the tune "A Few Of My Favorite Things" rolls through my head and heart).

This is a beautiful house that I pass almost everyday. It sits up on a hill and always looks so very Southern to me.

Kids in my neighborhood riding a little homemade "sled" made of a cardboard box and riding the little hill by their house. They were more than happy to take a moment out of their kiddo business to strike a pose.

This is a beautiful red barn that I always admire when I pass by. Prince and I are going to paint our barn these colors. Of course, ours is not quite so big.....not by a long shot.

A house that I love with a white picket fence all the way around it off of Roscoe Road. Everytime I see this house I think "Happy people live here in this place".

Cows grazing through our little bit of snow that we got Sunday afternoon. It's all gone now, but it was lovely while it was here.

A little snowman that someone made on the side of the road complete with carrot nose and branchy arms. Sooo cute :)

After a long day, Prince and I went to one of our favorite Mexican resturant's La Fiesta. This is our favorite waiter Rene. We always have the Fajita Burrito dinner and its always deliciouso. We were so hungry and it was so good that we almost la licked the plates.

Come down to Newnan and see us some time. We'll serve you fresh smiles, sweet tea, friendly conversation in our little town. It's the best of both world's. City convenience and small town charm. This place is a hidden jewel where Prince and I can expect the unexpected, discover hidden jewels and still hear the train whistle in the near distance all the while knowing that we are home for good.

Let It Snow, Let It Snow!!!

Well, it rarely snows in the part of Georgia that Prince and I live in but yesterday? Surprise, surprise, surprise!! I thought I escaped this when we left the D.C. area. I'm not exactly a snow and cold weather type of girl, but I must say it was a lovely sight to behold.

Sadie, our new pup the Lab/Retriever mix lovin it!! She bounced, pounced, trounced and played like a kiddo until we almost had to make her come indoors.

Ellie, our 3 pound Chi drawing the line as to how far into the yard she was willing to go......which obviously wasn't very far at all!

Sadie again, playing on the deck. She kept slip-sliding away. She's a clumsy little darlin anyway and makes us laugh, laugh, laugh. Constant source of raw entertainment for Prince and I.

Roxie, our new Border Collie that we rescued last week. Notice the huge flakes of snow on her back. Whe wanted to be toweled off and go straight back indoors.

Our front yard. I love that old dairy milk container with pansy's planted in it that graces the old covered well.

A tree in our front yard covered in the white fluff. The tree was just getting her Spring buds. She'll still be okay. It wasn't that terribly cold and I don't think that it will harm her or her Spring beauty.

A back view of our deck and house covered in the fluff. It looked quite pretty.

An old urn that sits outside our front door by the walk way. It looks like it is trimmed with fur doesn't it? Faux fur of course :)

My umbrella tree frosted with snow.

One of my beautiful Forsythia trees covered in snow. I love how the beautiful yellow flowers still peek out through the snow. Forsythia reminds me of my Grandmother who called them Yellow Bell's. I am so happy that I have three nice Yellow Bell's in our yard. I call them all Nene.....

Not much of the snow stuck very well. It drizzled rain and the ground was pretty warm. There's a little left this morning and it still looks quite pretty. The kiddos in the area of course loved it. Cousin Four got to slide down a couple of hills on a float, which of course thrilled him. I wish that I had gotten to see that and I hope that Cousin Sis took a couple of snaps for us to see later. Prince and I do think it looks a little like a nice postcard, but of course we are ready for Spring. We need to get our organic herbs, peppers and veggies into the ground for our organic garden. We've got a lot of work to do around here. But, all in all, I'd say it was a nice respite and we cuddled up in front of the fire with a little hot toddy....or two.

Today, March 1 is My Parent's Anniversary

That's my Mom, Jean and my Dad, Bud on the day they married. All that I know is that it was March 1st. I don't know the year. My Dad was a Hydraulic Engineer for the government and my Mom was still in high school. The met when my Dad came into town one week while he was on a job assignment. My grandparent's owned a little country store in Alabama and my Dad stopped in for a Coca~Cola. They met that day and saw each other every night that week. When it came time for Dad to leave my mother told her parent's that she was going with him. She was so young that that's my Papa with them because he had to go sign for her to get married. They are standing on a bridge somewhere in Helena, Alabama.

My Dad passed away on a Sunday morning very unexpectedly at the age of 45 on June 6, 1976. My mother passed away on August 7, 1977 at the age of 41. My Papa that is standing with them left this earth in 1978. I was 13, 14 and 15 years old respectively.

My darling Grandmother, Christine came to live with us, as there were 4 of us and not many people can take on 4 children. She was my rock. She held us together and wiped my tears when I cried.......especially for my Daddy because I was the only girl and we all know that all girl's are Daddy's girl's.......

Anyway, Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad. I know that you are together. It has been many, many years and yet it seems like only yesterday. I know that you are together and happy and that is what I want for you.......to be together and happy. I miss you though........

This last snapshot is one in honor of my Dad who was a wounded Korean War Veteran. He drove an ammo truck to the front line and on the way back from the run, he and his buddies ran over a mine. Had they run over that mine when the truck was full of ammunition they would have all been killed. As it was, only he and one of his buddies survived and both got Purple Hearts. When he died, he was given full military honors and we still have the flag that was draped over his casket. This one's for you Daddy.
