Today: Totally Useless Facts and Trivia!!

I'm a little under the weather. To say the least. I have some wierd ailment that my own doctor, aka "the Quack" can't diagnose right now. I do feel better this morning than I did yesterday. On the plus side, I get to wear my jammies all day and be curled up with a book. In honor of wierd and wacky ailments, lets just play a little trivia today! (all question answers will magically appear at the bottom of the post......okay well maybe not magically.....).

*There used to be a commercial about Brylcream, it's motto was?
A) It's a dream B) Tame A cowlick C) A little dab'll do ya

*Complete the following: "I found my thrill"
A) With Thyme and Dill B) On my man Bill C) On Blueberry Hill

*Before Peter Pan was played by Robin Williams, who played Mr. Pan?
A) Errol Flynn B)Mary Martin C)Doris Day

*Who was the first child star to be nominated for an Oscar?
A) Shirley Temple B)Jackie Cooper C) Mickey Rooney D) Judy Garland

Useless Facts:

* Grapes explode when you put them in the microwave (You too can try this at home!)

* Toothpaste has been around since 500 BC, but is wasn't until 1892 that it became availabe in a collapsable tube (what was it in before 1892 I ponder??????)

* Honey NEVER spoils. No need to refridgerate it. It can be stored unopened, indefinately, at room temperature in a dry cupboard.

* The first pizza was made in Naples, Italy (I new I loved Naples).

* 93% of people eat at least one frozen pizza at least once a month

* 1957 introduced the first frozen pizza (immediately thereafter came 'pizza worshipping'!)

And speaking of the revered pizza. I leave you with this fantastic, quick and easy pizza recipe.

SLOPPY JOE PIZZA
1 refridgerated ready made pizza crust
1 lb ground meat (of your choice) browned and drained
1 can Hunt's Manwich SloppySauce (if you're not a man, get any brand you please...)
Grated Mozzarella and rated Sharp Cheddar cheese

Cover ready made crust with sloppy joe sauce. Sprinkle with browned meat. Cover with shredded cheeses to your taste. Bake at 425 degrees until crust is brown and meat/cheese mixture is bubbly. Prince and kiddos alike love this recipe.

I'm not quite sure how this post ended up being about a pizza recipe. Perhaps I should take my medicine and have a little lie down again.

***trivia answers:#1 - C, a little dab'll do ya #2- C, on blueberry hill #3, Mary Martin #4, Shirley Temple

The "English To English" Translation Guide (part deux)

The language barrier is much better at our house, but every now and then it rears it's ugly head again. I mostly understand Prince these days though occasionally, I get caught off guard myself. I thought that today I would translate a little more Brit speak.

"Adverts" = Commercials
"Trolley" = Shopping cart
"Wonky" = Shaky or mis-made (as in "I often get the trolley with the wonky wheel)
"Let me sort this out" = Let me get this straight!
"Discombobulated" = confused or out of sorts
"Toast Maker" = toaster
"Walk About = a stroll (as in "I'm taking Ellie for a walk about")
"Motorway" = Interstate
"The traffic swishes by" = people drive really fast over here in America
"Snaps" = photographs, pictures
"Bugger Off" = get lost! (or insert your OWN special translation here!)
"Floor Mat" = rug
"Reg, have you gone daft?" = "Have you lost you mind girl?". (I hear this one
a lot for some reason.......especially lately)

For all of his kooky language, Prince is still one of the nicest guys I've ever met. He has a lot of character about him. He is really trying to learn southern lingo and occasionally says "Flaming Nora Y'all", which is especially funny when said with his charming British accent. Prince also never enacts diabolical behavior, which is always a plus in a man. He has a huge and loving heart and always gives me one of his hushpuppies when he orders fish for dinner. I love the way he laughs at the new Dorrito's advert and how he loves to watch Friday Night Standup on Comedy Central. I think I'll keep him because he's not afraid to wear my girlfriend gigi's earrings.......and my don't they bring out his pretty eyes? (he's gonna kill me for posting this snap!!)

Surprise at Santa Fe Cattle Company!!!!

This is my daughter and me with the surprise!!!

This is a mural painted on the side of The Santa Fe Cattle Company that my daughter and I thought was hilarious. Redneck tea? May be good though it can't compare to Cousin Davy's sweet tea which is requested from as far away has Ohio.

I loved this old beat up truck that graced the entrance of The Santa Fe Cattle Company. Neither of us had been there before and the food, atmosphere and the company of my daughter was fantastic.

Yesterday afternoon, I went to Alabama to meet my daughter Miss Nan for lunch. You may remember Miss Nan from a couple of earlier blog posts. We were meeting half way between our house in Georgia and her house in Troy to have a nice lunch and just see each other for a few hours. This picture is the sign that greeted me when I crossed the State line into Alabama.

Then Miss Nan let me in on her little, or should I say BIG surprise. Her boyfriend of two years had given her an engagement ring the night before. It was a lovely and elegant ring. She practically glowed as she was telling the story of how her now fiance proposed. It was a really sweet story. I was a little shocked to say the least. I told her that if this is what makes her happy and she loves this man, then she has Prince's and my support. We will stand with her, beside her and watch her when she marries because she belongs to us. Today, our lunch tasted like love.

Anyway, this is all making me feel really old. Really old AND tired. All that I can think of right now is "I need to be sure to use extra moisturizer from now on" and "What the hell am I going to wear?". She says that they are going to be engaged for a little while before marrying which is a relief. I need a little time to absorb all of this for a little while. My youngest.....my baby girl, is getting married. I didn't cry though because cowgirls don't cry. Wait, I'm not a cowgirl I'm a smalltown city girl!!

Tuesday's Touring Newnan....City Of Homes

I'm setting aside Tuesday's to spotlight our beautiful, charming town. I have a couple of new bloggy friends......one from China, one from Malaysia, one from Germany, one from Brasil and quite a few in America. I want to share the beauty that our historic town has to offer.

Front view of Sargent Baptist Church on Highway 16. This cross on the front is spotlighted at night so that you can see it clearly when you drive past. This is where Prince and I worship.

Sign in Fabiano's Pizza. The pizza is pretty hard to beat here and the atmosphere is fantastic.

The old Alamo Movie Theater, now converted to Alamo-Jacks.

Wahoo Creek. I can't wait to revisit this spot in the spring for a picture!!

The Carnigie Building is being restored. I can't wait to get a peek inside when they are finished.

Y'all come see us down in Newnan. I'll be more than pleased to show you around. Maybe you can come and sit a spell........

Get Your Expensive Cheap "Stuff" Here......

Prince and I are moving in about 2 weeks. Moving is in and of itself exhaustive and annoying. Moving "stuff" that you know that you aren't even going to be using is just plain silly, right?? (Please agree with me here!)? So we decide to have the dreaded MOVING SALE!!

I list the moving sale on the community bulletin board early in the week and then spend the rest of the week marching things to the garage for pricing. Some things, I had to put back because on second, third or fourth glance I decided that we couldn't part with an item or two. I invite family members and friends to add any items that they wish to the dreaded moving sale. Of course the more stuff that you can add to your sale, the more glamorous it seems.

Saturday morning arrives, we are all up bright and early for our big event. Before the sun even rises, we are pulling our sale items out of the garage and arranging them all on tables strewn all about the drive and sidewalks. We do pretty well. We have lots of buyers and we unload a good bit of our lives. Then around 2:00 p.m.....fatigue sets in to us all. We are all thinking how much we don't want to have to put everything we don't sell back into boxes, into the garage, or haul back home. Then we had an idea!! Let's mark everything down. Sort of a "Going out of Business" sale. We decide to advertise in a B~I~G way........

We make this massive sign announcing 'prices reduced !!', tape it onto Princes SUV and park it right at the entrance to the street. In this picture is me, Reggie Girl, Cousin Sunshine and that's my buddy Cousin Four on the ground there. Believe it or not, this actually worked. We had quite a few stoppers-by after posting the sign by the street. We all actually ended up selling quite a few of our memories this weekend. We were all tired and spent by day's end, but we actually enjoyed our day together. We sat around and talked, ate lunch and shared a few laughs as we always do when we're together. It was definitely worth the effort. Laughter is highly underrated. Laughter AND togetherness is priceless. Maybe we'll do it again soon....whattaya say ladies????

A Gift For The Common Good

It's Sunday, so I suppose I am a little thoughtful and mindful today. I have been thinking about the greatest gifts that we can give to ourselves. I find that I often give little gifts to others, but don't often take the time to give many to myself . I think that maybe, just maybe, the best gift's that I can give to myself are; allowing myself to love with wild abandon, accepting love from other's who have no hidden agenda, appreciating my wonderful Prince our wonderful family & friends each and every day, and pursuing happiness like there will never be another day left to live. Who knows? There may not be..........

We have to be good to ourselves. If we don't who will? I have to take care of myself and Prince and treat us as precious every day. I want to never allow anyone or anything to rob me of the joy that I know God intended for me to have on this earth.

We are P~U~R~S~U~I~N~G H~A~P~P~I~N~E~S~S...... each and every day because it is worth it.

Watching The Moon....Watching The Stars

We are moving......again. This time to what I hope is a permanent home. A home where we will spend the rest of our days together. I am weary of putting our life in boxes. I took this picture last night as I was exhaustively putting yet more of our lives in boxes. Look how beautiful the moon was last night. Look how elegant she appears. The moon fascinates Prince and I. We sit many times in the evenings and watch the moon and the stars. We try to fathom what is really out there in our infinite universe.

Prince and I hope to spend the rest of our days working our organic garden and sitting by the pool sipping "GiGi's Guaranteed Mint Julep" with fresh organic mint that we grow with our own hands.

Nothing in the world is better for our bodies and our planet than eating food that you grow, cut, prepare and eat right out your own back yard. Eating food that your grow in the ground that you walk on and is grown in the very air you breath. We are also tired of helping our country be dependent on foreign oil and tired of trucks and trains that fill our air with smog.

My fresh organic herbs are already growing in pots.....ready to transplant into our new gardens.

We are happy everyday.......because we choose to be.
