Times are tough. I'm getting ready.

I have joined Andy's Garden Club to learn a thing or two about composting for my spring/summer garden. I want everything to be organic. I'm only going to use natural pesticide's. As soon as Prince and I move to our new lovenest, I'm going to start turning over the earth with rich natural fertilizer's and planting my spring crop!!

I spoke to the owner's of two of the local mexican restaurants and they have promised to buy all of the cilantro that I can grow. Along with other fresh herbs, cilantro it will be. I may even have a couple of back beds of cilantro. I'm excited!! This endeavor is going to be my summer job and I can't wait.

According to the Grier's Farmers Almanac, in late February I should start my tomatoes, pepper and eggplants indoors to transplant into my garden when the soil is fully warm. (And I do know from my Grandmother that you don't dare put any of that into the ground even one day before Good Friday). They even suggest doing the same for English peas, carrots and greens, such as spinach, and broccoli. The Farmer's Almanac has been around forever so you have to have a little respect for their experience.

This is going to feel like coming home for me. As a child, I used to help in both of my Grandmother's gardens during the summers. I also learned to can and freeze my garden veggies from Miss Christine aka, the greatest Grandmother ever. Period. I also learned to make pickles, preserves, jams and jellies from her. I'm so glad that I was paying attention. Canning has become a dying art.

Thank goodness I did learn this valuable information. Times are so tough that even that girl on the mudflaps of big trucks is having to apply for temp work!!!!

**Random side note: It was on a Tuesday in January that the Vietnam War ended in 1973**

Steady on,

Reggie Girl
