Tuesday's Touring Newnan, City Of Homes

These are a few things that I spied while I've been out and about in my beautiful city this week of Newnan, Georgia.

**An important note: I've been informed that clicking on the "Daily Puppy" will generate a little more money for the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society so if you have just a second......please???? It's such a worthy cause!!

Spring has arrived in all of it's glory and beauty, people are getting out and smiling while they have a little have a little zip in their walk. I see friends sharing lunches in cafes and diners Al Fresco because it's nice and the weather permits eating outside.........

Come for a little stroll with me in my hometown.......

A beautiful weeping cypress that I saw in front of the City Of Newnan Police Department...

Outside on the sidewalk at the Vintage Flea. Shopkeeper's downtown are displaying their wares in the sunshine......

A barn that I saw that I thought was really pretty off of Roscoe Road......

Don's Barber Shop in Downtown Newnan. I've always loved anything with a Barber's pole......

Nobody told me there was a Money Tree in town. I'm on the look out for it to be sure.........

A bicycle planter that has yellow ribbons tied on it for our soldiers.......

A truck bed that I saw in front of a blooming Dogwood tree.,,,just in time for Easter......

Beautiful colorful tulips are blooming.........

An artist's palette of azaleas blooming off of Jackson Street. I took this not just because of the beauty. I also took this for Airmans Mom because of the yellow ribbon tied around the old oak tree......

It's Uncle Baby's 40th Birthday Yall......

I don't know about you but we had an awesome weekend. We went to a surprise birthday party for one of my favorite people ever......Uncle Baby!!

Course, that's not really his real name but it's what his sweet little 2 year old nephew call's him because he hasn't quite worked out how to say it properly yet. I think it's hilarious and I hope that he calls him that even when he grows up. That's sure to get a laugh out of me and everyone else around if some grown kiddo yells "Hey, Uncle Baby" across a parking lot somewhere. I can just see the looks now.......

This is Uncle Baby and his kiddo Cousin Four. Cousin Four of course has on his goofy gettin picture taken face. Prince and I are a little fond of them both but don't tell them......we wouldn't want it to go to their heads......

A pretty little niece trying to sneak a lil bite of icing. She's a be-yoot and looks a bit like Princess Jasmine to us. I hope that she always has an enchanted life like I do!! I see headaches for Mom and Dad down the road as they try to keep the hormonal hounds away from this girl. Better them than me I say........

Uncle Baby's amazing sister reading a list of "40 Things We love About Baby". Some were sweet and serious. Some a little sarcastic and funny. All in good fun though......

This is the little Prince-in-waiting that call's our fella Uncle Baby. I see Princess's in his future..........

And here's Uncle Baby all decked out in his beads, suave sunglasses and hat. You rarely see him without sunglasses so this was a must. Nobody made him "show" anything for the beads. There were kiddo's around for heaven's sake......

Happy birthday dude!! Welcome to the glorious forties. Aches and pains in places that you didn't even realize you have are headed your way. Gray hairs and son's that take girls riding in cars and then bring them home. One GREAT thing about getting older is that, you really care less and less what people think or say about you and you don't worry about as many things like traffic jams and burnt toast. A great tenderness for yourself and the world opens inside you and you find that you do belong to this time, to these people, to this earth, and to something that is both within and larger than all of it, something that sustains and holds us all.

We all love you and are considering keeping you around for 40 more years. Maybe longer if you behave. Personally, I wouldn't trade you for anything (but an red Aston Martin...sorry but everyone has a price buddy)..........

Quiet Thoughtful Sundays: Churches and Temples

I love this montage of churches, temples and mosques. Whenever I go to another town, State or another country, the places of worship always catch my eye and attention. I always wonder what kinds of people worship in these places and what their beliefs are. I do quite a bit or reading on world religions because I find it fascinating. I enjoy reading the background of various religions whether they concur with my own convictions or not. I think sometimes that the only way that we could perhaps stop some of these holy wars is to seek to understand other peoples beliefs......maybe respect the fact that they have the right to beleive as they do and allow them to follow their own convictions. Of course, I'm not speaking of extremist groups that harm other's. I absolutely can't wrap my brain around any religion that harms other human beings in the name of God. Nothing will ever make me understand that.

Matthew Chapter 22 verses 36-39:
36: Master,which is the greatest commandment in the law?
37: Jesus said unto him, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind".
38: "This is the first and great comandment".
39: "And the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself".

Wishing you an amazing quiet thoughtful Sunday.

Blast From The Past. Old Photos

I found a box of old photographs. You know, you start going through them and the memories flood. Good memories and yet, it all seems like so long ago and still like yesterday.

This is an old snapshot of me in my Big Bro's wedding in 1979. Yeah, that's me way over at the left far side. Dontcha just love that hair-do?? I say.......it's a hair-DON'T!!!!!! Friend's don't let friends go out of the house like that!! What in the world were we thinking? Look at those peach bridesmaids frocks. Remember how your girlfriends used to say "I'm going to pick something that you can all wear again". I don't know about you, but I can't recall ever stepping out for a night on the town in one of those lovely bridesmaid frocks........especially the ones with ruffles...........you know, the ones that made us all look like Flamenco dancers........

This is me and Big Bro in 1969 I think. I was the "queen" of the Cardinal's baseball team. I remember vividly that there was the cutest boy on the team named Mark that I wanted to escort me to the pitcher's mound for this dandy trophy. My mom MADE me let Big Bro escort me. The horror's......I just knew that I would be scarred for life!! Somehow I made it through the drama and the trauma and Big Bro and I are big friends as well as brother and sister. I have two other brother's. This Big Bro and another Big Bro. They are twins and I was born on their second birthday. Talk about getting ripped off.......every party we had was a shared one.
I could possibly truly be scarred from that. Who wants to share an all girl sleepover with their brothers?? I'm still mad, lol........

A song for Spring.......
"She rocks in the tree top all day long.....hoppin and a boppin and a singin her song.
All the little birdie's on Jaybird Street love to hear the Robin go tweet, tweet, tweet"
~~~~~~Rockin Robin by The Jackson Five~~~~~~
Hope everyone has an E~X~T~R~E~M~E weekend and.......
Friday Shoot-Out....Cemeterie's and Graves....
Welcome to our Friday Shoot Out. I'm not even sure what I want to say this morning. I'm not even sure that I know what to say but what I really NEED to say is at the bottom of this post. I've been very sick and yesterday we found out that our dear friend Barry from An Explorer's View Of Life is sick as well. Barry picked our subject this week for the shoot-out and he picked cemetaries. I'm not sure what our subject will be next week. I don't even know if I'm going to do this project next week..............
We have several very old historic cemetaries in Newnan. Many, many husbands and wives, fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, dear children, young and aged, soldiers of every war that this country has even been involved in, immigrants and natives have had their earthly body laid to rest in these beautiful cemetaries. As I walked through taking these snapshots, I wondered about each one of these folks. What kind of people they were, what kind of life they had and wondered if they were happy. I saw the beautiful flowers and little trees that were planted or placed as tributes to loved ones.
One that was so faded by time and weather that I could barely make out said: "Ever this day be at my side to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen".
I hope that you will enjoy these pictures and much as I enjoyed taking them....
The only other thing that I feel compelled to say today is this:
If you feel that there is something out of the ordinary going on with your body, please seek the guidance of a physician immediately. I have been the world's worst about this in the past and now I'm paying for it. And please, stop worshipping the sun!! Please stop abusing your body because that's what I did. I thought that I didn't need sunscreen because nothing would happen to me. That is also what some of my younger family members think. Now? I have Melanoma that went down into one of my glands. Thank God it has been removed but I now have to take 6 weeks of Chemotherapy and wouldn't wish that on anyone and they still won't listen. Trust me......that pretty tan isn't worth looking "cute" for and it's certainly not worth dying for.......
Awana Class and The Chicken Dance
Before I went to ride the church bus to pick up the children for Awana, I was brave enough to go into the new Food Lion on their "Grand Opening" day. Big Mistake.....HUGE!! Wow, they really had fantastic buys but were the ever crowded. I got caught in the deli right in the "Chicken Dance Dance Off". Very interesting and since I was penned in I stayed put. Seems they play the Chicken Dance song and whoever dances the very best wins a hot, fresh rotisserie chicken. I, ummm. well, geez, I wasn't after a rotisserie chicken and I just don't think that i'm that good of a chicken dancer so I just watched.
They were also giving away a gift package of this Lazy-Ass Hot Sauce with a free Lazy Ass Hot Sauce T-shirt. I don't know what you had to do to wind this be-yoot and I was afraid to ask......
This is a snapshot of the Dance Off........I'm not quite sure who won....
Sydney and Ta'Kayea putting the ole rabbit ears over each other for this shot. They are both in my Awana class. They are both really sweet girls.........
Miss Audrey is in my class as well. She is trying to look all serious and contemplative.......
Miss Nina is is my class and her mother quietly informed me last night that she has been diagnosed with a very serious heart condition. I feel sad for her and her parent's. Her Mom just seemed like she was still in shock when she told me that her only daughter, who is in first grade, has such a grave condition. She said something about some type of treatment but was so upset that I didn't understand it all and will ask her again when I see her at church. Nina is such a beautiful and sweet girl........
Javon deep in prayer. I thought this was a wonderfully sweet shot. There are seven kiddos in his family that all live with his grandmother. They ride the bus with us. This family is part of the reason that I do ride the bus each week. They give me such joy and I think that I get far more out of it than they do..........
This is little Jay-Jay. He always sits with me on the bus. He's in kindergarten and also one of the seven grandchildren. He's so sweet and he makes me laugh. Every week before he get off the bus he hugs me and says "When can I come over to your house to see you". I told him last night that during spring break we'd get together.............
Mis Nay-Nay, another of the seven who is just darling. She is a little shy, a lday of few words but has one of the sweetest laughs that I have ever heard. She too is one of the seven grandchildren. Whe we dropped them off at their house after Awana's last night, I asked her Grandmother if they could all come to my house for a little tea party during Spring Break. Spring Break is only two weeks away. When I asked Jay-Jay and Nay-Nay what they wanted to eat at their tea party they both said peanut butter and pineapple sandwichs with no crust please!! So.....peanut butter pinapple sandwiches it will be. I'm going to pick them up one afternoon after I finish delivering my lunches. We will all have a grand time!!...........
*************"Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world.
Red and yellow, black and white they are precious in his sight.
Jesus loves the little children of the world".
~~~A song that I have known all of my life~~~

Tomorrow is another series of the big "Friday Shoot-Out". Hopefully you'll all join us. The subject this week is graveyards. So get a little cemetary skulking in if you haven't already done so. This is turning into a really cool project that gets bigger each week. We want every one who wants to participate to please join us and perhaps make your post header say something referring to "Friday Shoot-Out" so that we an find your post and have a little look see at your photographs. I can't wait to see them all!! So until tomorrow............

Tuesdays Touring Newnan......City Of Homes

It's Tuesday and time for me to pay homage to my beautiful hometown - Newnan, Georgia. It's Spring and folks around here's flowers are beginning to bloom and gardens are being tilled that soon will support melons, tomatoes, squash and other fine fare . Produce stands in corner markets offer boiled peanuts to pick up to take to ball games.

Newnan is a charming town of a million small memories, pieced together to make homes for our resident's and the generations of residents to come. Come take a stroll with me again........... (Don't forget that you can click onto each individual picture for a better up close and more detailed view)

First I want to show off my switch plate covers that I ordered from Attic Clutter!! She may not live here in Newnan but these fine hand painted folk art switch plate covers do now. I found these on her blog and knew that I had to have them for our house. Everyone that sees them loves them and you should check out her blog for more fine etsy items. She'll send them to you straight away with a sweet little note inside the post........

The entrance to Forest Lawn Memorial. I love the way the entrance sign is covered with creeping ivy..........

Blue Ribbon winning oil painting displayed in Espresso Lane Coffee House. They showcase local art and local talent and make a mean cup of cappuccino......

Lots of folks play Texas Holdem at the Alamo in town........

Andy's Corner Market on the outskirts of town. Beautiful flowers, awesome produce and delicious boiled peanuts are offered here on a daily basis. They will be buying my organic produce on Wednesdays and Saturdays beginning in May......

More of the gorgeous stained glass that graces many of our local homes and churches....

I thought the corner of this front yard off of Macedonia Road was really striking and I love the topiary in front of the Pampas grass.......

I love this old hand mortared brick wall with the old rusty silo behind it. I pass this quite often and always wonder what kind of men painstakingly laid all of these bricks. The wall is kind of long and I wonder if this was the beginnings to a "Great Wall of Newnan"...........

Of course I've saved my favorite snapshot for last. I was driving home late yesterday afternoon after a long day and saw these kiddos on the side of Roscoe Road all dressed up in their finery holding up this sign. Much to the chagrin of Prince I did a great big ole U-turn in the middle of the road to get this photograph. Thank goodness none of Newnan's finest was around to give me a lecture (though I'm sure that they would understand right?). I asked these young one's what this was all about and they all laughed and said "Well, we were kind of bored and it's really a big inside joke". They were ever so polite, as most of the children are in Newnan, and were happy to strike a pose for me. I'm sure that Butler or Bagman of The Butler and Bagman Chronicals will have a heyday dissecting the absurdities of the meaning behind this little venture. I'm going to lean towards the explanation of Bagman in advance because Butler can't stop obsessing about my hair. But that's another story entirely.

****"Black and orange stray cat sittin on a fence. Ain't got the money for to pay the rent" (BUT....he's got cat class and he's got cat style!!).
~~~~Lyrics from the song "Stray Cat Strut"~~~~
Hope everyone has a joyful day. Take good care and........
