Very, very rarely do I do a really personal post. I love to promote the town that I live in and love and talk about a cause so dear to my heart the Humane Society. I love to tell stories about my awesome family and friends all of whom provide me with much laughter and entertainment. Today, at the urging of my dear friends Debby @ The Pink Bird House, Loida @2L3Bs and Ducking Little I will tell the story of how I met and fell in love with my Prince. It is a sweet story. A story of true love and passion and how I found the love of my life. I don't really share this story with too many people. A few people assume to know how Prince and I came to be, but of course they never really asked us. So okay, Debby, Loida and Ducking Little, here goes.........
I met my Prince while playing Trivia at one of our little pubs in our town. He had just moved here to America from London with his job at an international airline and I had just moved here to be with my family after leaving a very abusive relationship with what I could fit into my best girlfriends car in the middle of the night.
I was with a few friends that I knew and Prince was sitting on the other end of the bar having a Guiness and a few wings. He kept blurting out the answer's to the trivia questions and I was absolutely appalled and insensed!! I finally wonered doen to where he was sitting and said "Look buddy, if you'd like to play trivia how bout you join a team? If you'd like, you can join ours but this is pretty serious competition here. We're playing for 50 chicken wings and my team would appreciate it if you'd stop shouting out the answer's because we're winning okay?". I was really nice about the whole thing and he apologized profusely but didn't join us. I had no clue that he had just moved here a month ago and didn't know anyone in town other than the people he worked with in nearby Atlanta.
It took him about 3 weeks and he finally approached our table and asked to join our team. Of course we said yes and a great friendship was born over St Pauly Girl, wings and a little random trivia. We played every Thursday night for months. Never once did I know that my Prince had designs on me. He never said anything out of the say or even put his hand on my knee. We enjoyed each other's company and would tell each other our weekly joys and woes and then part ways. Poor guy I used to tell him about my dating catastrophes and occasionally we'd meet for a little dinner or a move, strictly as friends because we were comfortable with each other and didn't have to put on airs.
One day, out of the blue Prince showed up at my back door. I opened the door and Prince looked frantic and said "I have to talk to you Reggie....right now". I invited him in thinking something was terribly wrong. He was so nervous that he was sweating and I thought he looked a little green around the gills. He said, and I quote........"Reggie, I'm in love with you. I've been in love with you since the first time you came to tell me off during that trivia game. I doubt that you feel the same way but it's been grating on my chest and I had to tell you today". I was flabbergasted and didn't respond immediately other than to say "I had no idea...I need to think about his for a bit. I've never thought of us that way".
I suppose as you can tell, I did begin to think of us "that way" and we've been together ever since. I call him my Prince for many reason's.......
He takes me to my beloved Gulf of Mexico where I was born and raised in December....
He gives me the most thoughtful and loving gifts. This is this year's Valentine's Day gift. Look at that sweet card with the little boy kissing the little girl....Prince always gives me cards with picture's of little kiddo's on the front and a sweet love message inside........
He doesn't laugh at my thoughts and dreams. Every day he treats me like a Princess. Every single day he not only tells me that he loves me each and every time I talk to him or see him. He doesn't care if I cook or we go out to eat and he doesn't make fun of me when I wear my Hello Kitty slipper's into the conveniece store to get a cold drink or something we forgot. He treats all of our children the same....with great gentleness and uncondtional love. He doesn't say anything when I drag home another stray pup, kitten or bird. He loves my family and treats them with respect. Cinderella has nothing on me............Every day I'm so thankful that this man was sent into my life. He's not the one that I can live with....he's the one that I can't live without........
(I want to acknowledge a birthday to someone who is dear to my heart....BARBIE!! She turns 50 today. She still looks 25 doesn't she?)

ReplyDeleteThis is a very sweet post. You are my ray of bloggy sunshine and it makes me happy to know you have a man worthy of your sweet ways. If the kindness you show a random unknown blog buddy is any indication of how you treated your trivia pals then Prince got a pretty good catch himself! Hugs, Jen

ReplyDeleteWonderful, sweet and happy. Can't ask for much more on a Monday morning. My family used to vacation at the Gulf of Mexico every year when we lived in Alabama (4yrs) and then Georgia(8 yrs). Such great memories there...
ReplyDeleteCatching up while on the road to Baltimore. Thank goodness for laptop broadband!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great Cinderella story. He is indeed a Prince, and you fair lady, did not turn into a pumpkin at midnight. You are an eternal princess!
Here is my romantic story: My car broke down, a man stopped to help me, took me home, is still here after 31 years. And he is my Prince!
Reggie, first let me comment on your post... what a wonderful story of how you both met, and I am so happy that he is such a wonderful guy for you. I will just say that finally, in my life, I have found the same kind of guy, who doesn't laugh at my hopes or dreams, and really doesn't mind much what we do or where we go, as long as we are together. :) I am so lucky to have found him. And on your last post, oh Miss Molly by golly, I sure would if I could, just bring that lil sweetheart home -- but 3 dogs, 3 cats, and 3 horses makes an expensive feed bill already!!! And finally, your comment to me about "virtual" gifts... I have never heard of this (yet). My contests are true giveaways, and I only just started doing this a few weeks ago, and decided it was such fun to do it again.(Here's the post where one of my dogs "picked" the last winner, http://oz-girl.blogspot.com/2009/03/tori-mae-picks-winner.html). I have a very "giving" nature anyhow, so this seemed a fun thing to do! It is totally impartial, the name I pick is the name I pick, whether it is someone I personally know, or someone I have met thru blogging. I will say I am meeting some absolutely wonderful people thru blogging and I think my giveaway gets me just a tad closer to many of these people. So, no, I truly don't know anything about these "virtual" gifts you have won, and I hope no one comes to my bloggy and tells me something similar or I will give them a piece of my mind!!! Why are there always such people, who have to give a bad name to everything??! :)
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful story. Isn't being treated like a princess the best after an abusive relationship? or any for that matter. Thanks for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteYou are a lucky princess!
ReplyDeleteMe too!
That is a very sweet love story and a great post! I loved getting to know more about you.
ReplyDeleteBoy am I a sucker for a love story and here you are living one. How lovely you two sound. You are both very lucky. I have no prince in my life now except for my beloved Garak, a lab/springer spaniel and Sootie, my black moggie, both rescued and the best friends in the world. They are kept in check by Pebbles our rescued tortishelled kitten who is the princess in the family. Well they say that princes can come in all guises don't they, Love your blog, have added it to my daily read, Margaret
ReplyDeleteI want a Prince.

ReplyDeleteWell you sound like a great girl. This is such a wonderful post and full of love. I wrote something similar for my wonderful man last October on our fourth wedding anniversary. Your campaign for an animal shelter is admirable. I wish you luck with that. Thanks for leaving such a nice comment on my blog. I'll be back here.
ReplyDeleteThis was such a nice post. My JR treats me like this also. We are some very lucky girls.
ReplyDeleteSince I have not yet been served with legal papers, yet, I would like to add with great seriousness and sincerity, that this is a great story and you and Prince are both very lucky. Seriously. No joking around (which I am promising the judge that I will only do in my own blog). Seriously.

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful story. I, too, have a wonderful marriage, and it is truly a gift. I have been treated much the same way for 28 years. People say I am spoiled, I say just lucky. Congrats.
ReplyDeleteIt's incredibly INCREDIBLY rare that I read a blog post all the way through; I get too distracted and I move on the next post, but this was far too adorable to leave un-read. Very cute Reggie Girl ;)

ReplyDeleteGod, your love story tickles me.. Such a lovely and super dooper happy story of two couples deeply in love. Reggie Girl you really deserve your Prince, not only you're such a friendly gal but full of fun and thoughfulness.. You really deserve each other and thank you very much for sharing this wonderful story of love.
Glad to know that you were born on December too. We highly appreciate being one of your countless friends..
love,
loida and family
Reggie girl, I left a lovely long comment on this post first thing yesterday morning, but it evidently did not post, because it is no where to be seen. Such a shame! Cuz I was thrilled to finally hear the story behind the two of you. I had a feeling deep inside this romantic heart of mine that you both were friends long before you were a couple, and I was right. I think some of the best love stories start as friendships! Thank you so much for sharing such a deeply personal story with all of us. You really did find a "keeper". That does not happen too often, so I wish you both continued love, romance, and that deep down feeling of belonging to each all along!! ciao friend, Debby
ReplyDeleteReggie,
ReplyDeleteI recently stumbled across your blog and have loved every bit of catching up on your posts. I can relate to this, as I have found my very own Prince after a string of bad relationships. I told my husband the other day that I thought the world would be so much better if people had what we have in their lives. It's hard to mean or sour when you are surrounded with so much love. Have a great day and thanks for reminding everyone that love is out there and it finds us!
Hugs from St. Louis, MO!
Wow- Write a book about that, because you lived a fairytale in real life. That is awesome. I hope to be that kind of guy one day--you deserve to be treated like a princess, so it only makes sense that you found your prince.
