I'm Just So Busy Today It's.........

...........just going to have to be this!!!! We're still tyring to finish moving house. Buh, what a job that is....I'd forgotten how much "stuff" we had stowed away in that garage of ours. That's okay though, sometimes when I open a box, it's like seeing an old friend.

Some of yall all, (said like Prince in me London accent), understand and some of you will. Sooner than you think as well...........

Speaking of the Sooner's know why their called that? They jumped and squatted propertie's in Oklahoma before they were legally supposed to. Tis a fact.....look it up :)

Happy Saturday to all. Take good care and...........

It's Just Signs, Signs Everywhere Signs....

Friday is finally here. I know that I'm not the only one excited that today is Friday for more reasons that one. Anyway, Crisfield Patty and I agreed to post local signs that we thought were eye catching, cute or just personified our home towns. I always have my camera with me these days and you'd be surprised what you will find if you keep your eyes open. Here goes........

Salvation Taxi. Perhaps you get a sermon on your way home??

Golden's On The Square. Prince and I eat here so often that it's like Cheer's. Everybody knows our name. Finer people you would never meet and the food is delicious as well.

A new resturant that is being remodeled going towards exit 41 on Highway 29. It used to be a barbeque place now it's going to be a mexican resturant. I think they made excellent use of the pig!!

PawPaw's Diner: Food with attitude at a low, low price. Now that's what I like.

An old Sinclair HC gasoline sign. I actually remember these. Man oh man, that makes me feel kind of old.

Golden Beauty Salon off the square going into town. Not just beauty yall.....GOLDEN Beauty. You gotta love that!

A picture in one of our local banks that caught my eye. Awesome.

A little dirt bike that I saw for sale off of Roscoe Road. The picture doesn't do it justice. It's itty bitty......like for a 6 year old and it's just darling.

Harwell, Brown and Harwell Attorneys and Owens Properties. Some of my favorite people in the world work in this very office. I don't usually recommend folks, but this office has it going on.

Best Of Friends Resturant now becoming JB's Barbeque. Prince and I used to love to eat at Best Of Friends on Sunday after church. We miss it but of course, will try the new barbeque place.

Mr Lisle at The Peach Cafe with his daily special sign. He says come on in and have a little lunch. I've eaten there once and will definately go again.

Bridlewood Morgans farm. I pass this place on almost a daily basis and am always struck by it's beauty. Their horses are amazing. The look so spirited and so strong (their house ain't too shabby either, lol).

Broad Street Sweets in our downtown area. Now just who doesn't like a good cupcake I ask you?

The Gun Show sign off of Highway 16. Only in the South, right? I love it!!

Rehab is going to be at one of our local pubs? I'm sooo there. No kidding, I'm going to HAVE to go to this one.

The Spirital Renewal Center sign in the bend off Bullsboro going into town. I just thought this sign was very well thought out and it caught my eye as I passed by. Of course I did a U-Turn to get this snapshot but please don't tell anyone....

MY PERSONAL FAVORITE: I was on my way to Alabama to pick up Roxie yesterday and I saw this traveling sign about to get onto the interstate. There was no way that I couldn't stop and beg for a personal photograph session right? The kind man gave me an old newspaper clipping and an old silver coin. That's his pups with him, Shep and Proverb. He told me that he's on a mission to spread the word of God and has been to almost every state in the last 8 years. Look at those horses.....aren't they be-yoots? As I pulled away the song "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" by Neil Diamond was playing in my head. As a matter of fact, I couldn't get that song out of my head for the rest of the day. What an amazing guy and what an amazing life he has chosen to live. I felt really humble as I left him and wished him nothing but the very best of love and kindness on his mission.

Well, that's all....for now. This was no way a competition (Miss Patty was beat me hands down in a competition of anykind.....she's a photojournalist!). She and I are just trying to spotlight our love for our charming towns.
Please do feel free and I invite you to leave me a comment telling my which one of my signs caught your fancy.

Gone, gone with the wind....ain't nobody looking back again".******

Jack Daniels And Truck Drivers

Yesterday morning I was driving through town with my girlfriend, the other gigi, when we made a wrong turn and ran across this magnificent sight. A big ole truck full of Jack Daniels Tennessee 7 Sour Mash. I was having a kind of bad morning having been to the doc for a little medical procedure that had left me a little uncomfortable and maybe a little melancholy. Then.......we saw THE truck. I suppose that since I was a off right then, the sight of this truck just struck me as hilarious.

I pulled over and ran over to talk with the driver Mr. Errick. I asked him if he minded if I took a little shapshot of him and his truck. Errick was more than happy to oblige and climbed down for a quick photo op.

When I got back into my Santa Fe the other gigi was laughing and said "Do you ever go anywhere without that camera? What did that guy say? He probably thought you were a nut?". That made me laugh and we both laughed for the rest of our little errand trip about town. That is just one of the reasons that I love the other gigi so, when she's about we always find something to laugh about.

I think that Mr. Errick may possibly have the best job ever. How could you ever have a bad day riding around in a cool Jack Daniel's truck like that? He was a nice looking guy with a great personality. He probably has his pick of the ladies. But seriously, who needs looks and personality when you have all the Jack and other spirits that you possibly need to woo the ladies? I wonder if one of Errick's job perks is getting leftovers or if he gets to keep the bottles that the seals "accidentally" get broken? I've had a lot of jobs, but I think that I want my next job to be driving about town in a big old Jack Daniels truck. I wonder if they will hire me? I think I'm going to apply, and soon. Summer is coming and I need just a lil for my pool parties. (If my pastor's wife is reading this, I just kidding. Kind of......)

Tomorrow Patty from Crisfield, Maryland and I are blogging on the cutest signs in our town. We are both trying to promote our beautiful towns/ I'm pro-Newnan and she's pro-Crisfield. We bet through this blogging madness and I hope to remain lifelong friends. I'm sorry that I'm a little behind in answering some of my comments. I promise to try to catch up over the weekend. I've been a tad busy and will be gone again all day to Alabama to see my daughter and to pick up another pup. Long story.......

Newnan High School Swim Team Banquet

Last night I had the privilege and pleasure of catering the Newnan High School Swim Team's Banquet. I can't even begin to say how enjoyable the evening was. These kiddos are without a doubt the most polite and well mannered young men and women that I have been around in quite some time. You know, most kiddos these days are just a little different than when I grew up. Being around these kiddo's parent's, I understood why these kiddo's were the way they are. The parent's are amazing.

This is my posse, Firefighter friend, Miss Culinary Arts, my Prince, Reggie Girl and Cousin Sis. Wow!! You could never find better friends and you could certainly never find better help. I could have never pulled it off without any one of them. The only one not present was the other gigi. She hung out with me all day yesterday and I just couldn't have gotten everything done without her help either.

Our dessert table. Hey, Who doesn't like a little dessert? I made all of that pudding from scratch and boy was it yummo.

This is our buffet line. We only used the finest china because we wanted their banquet to be special for them. My good friend Cuz Cash's son (the one who called me his "illegitimate aunt", lol) is a swimmer on this swim team and I didn't want to disappoint either one of them. I already knew a couple of the other kiddos as well and they are all great young people.

This is the swim team's cake. I would take credit for this cake but I can't. One of the swimmers Mom's brought this fantastic cake. Isn't it gorgeous?

This is a quilt that was made for the swim team coach. All the swimmers made a square and then the quilt was put together. This quilt was simply stunning. I was admiring it with the swim team coach and she was touched and marveled that they would give her such a special memory to keep forever. I don't know whether it had sunk into her quite yet that these parent's thought that she was a pretty amazing lady and a terrific coach. Moment's like this are priceless.

It was such an honor to be a part of such a special evening. We all had a great time whether we were working, watching, listening and even cleaning up afterwards. I thank the Mom's of the swim team for letting my cater their event and I hope to do so again. It was a little work, but oh so worth it...........

Tuesdays Touring Newnan.....City Of Homes

It's Tuesday again. Time for me to post a few snaps of things that I found interesting in my beautiful town this week while I was out and about. I always take my camera with me because you never know when something groovy will take your fancy and you will just have to photograph it, lol.

This is a picture of a hand made welded train engine mailbox. Look at the fine detail. I happen to know the person who made this mailbox and he's a pretty amazing guy. He just happens to be my uncle...........

This is a tractor made of hay that sits on Macedonia Church property by the road. I passed it for a few days and then thought I'd better hurry and get a snap before they took it down. I think this really speaks small town and every time I pass by this tractor made of hay I smile.

This a tribute to somone who must have been adored and loved very much. The bench and the angel touched my heart.

This is an old wooden birdhouse place near someone's final earthly resting place. She must have been an avid birdwatcher. I hope that lots and lots of birds play here every day.

This is the greeting sign at the entrance of Forest Lawn Memorial. I love the way the ivy surrounds it.....

As I said, these are just a few of the charming things that caught my eye this week in my beautiful, charming town. I think that I say this every Tuesday, but there is nothing like living in a small town. The folks are nice, everything is kept nice and pleasing to the eye and going to the court square and shopping at the local merchants there is something that I find peaceful and it makes me feel kind of normal. Prince and I walk around downtown at least once every couple of weeks even if to window shop. We always see someone we know while we are out walking around and stop for a friendly chat. Priceless...............

Please Meet Our Newest Girl Sadie.......

We picked up our newest addition to the lovenest last night Miss Sadie. She rode home with me in the car brilliantly.....like she has been a "car rider" all of her life. I brought her straight in to meet our 3 pound Chi Ellie and our Ragdoll cat Sophie.
Sophie swatted her in the face straight away just for good measure. Ellie went gangster and thought for a brief moment that she was a Doberman. Anyway, after a few minutes of introduction interaction all was well.

The usual "meet and greet" that pups are so very well known for.

After calming Ellie down, we got down on doggie level for a little up close and personal. Ellie is relaying to Sadie that she is the Alpha dog here and that she was definitely here first.

Close up of Ellie and Sadie having their first face-to-face meeting. Please note not how Ellie Bee is doing her best to pretend that Sadie is actually not there and is giving her the cold shoulder.

Just Sadie being cute and sweet.

Sadie, Ellie and Sophie all did very well on their first night together. The two pups played. I was a little worried that Sadie might be a little rough with Ellie but wasn't the case. They actually ending up playing a little fetch together, though I still don't think that Ellie is terribly impressed at this point. Sophie, is just a little eh, about the newest member of the lovenest. She has stopped Sadie from drinking her own water a couple of times just to let her know that, she too was here first.

Sadie is a rescue pup and you can tell that she was abused. She seems pretty insecure and is a little food aggressive but we can love that out of Sadie. Love and security, good food, warm beds and loving parents heal all kinds of wrongs.

Welcome Sadie..........we love you already!!

Somehow We Made It This Far.....

You know, things sure have changed a lot since I was a kid (and no age jokes here please. Pretty please??). This is a picture of my brothers, yes of course that's them dressed up in their nifty cowboy outfits, my 2 cousins from Alabama and myself with our Mom and our Gran. We were at our Gran's house. This surely had to be a photo op because we were never usually allowed to actually eat inside at this table. We usually had to eat on her outside porch when we were all together like this. As you can see my cousin's are dressed alike. They're not twins so I have no clue why my auntie used to dress them alike. The other picture is us all piled up and sitting on our Papa. He was a blast our Papa. He always used to actually get us into purpose on trouble and then laugh about doing so.

When we were growing up one year we got bicycles for Christmas. You see then, mostly you got a bike and you just learned to ride it on your own. There was none of this bicycle-helmets-knee-pad rubbish. Our Dad held it up long enough for us to get on the thing and off we went. Now, we definitely had a few bumps and scrapes but we learned how to ride our bicycles like pros. I like the way we learned to ride. Our dad just knew that we would learn and he let us without hovering over us. There was never the assumption that we WOULDN'T be able to ride and we all rose to the occasion and passed with flying colors. Within a week we were riding in the street (yep.....right down the middle of it) with no hands.

We also were never, ever, as in just didn't happen, allowed to sit inside all day long and watch television (there were no video games until 'Pong" came along and proudly we had the first one in our neighborhood) or sleep half of the day away. Our mom would wake you up to make you go outside into the sunshine. I surely didn't appreciate that then. I do appreciate that now.

We were allowed to play with toy guns in our house and yet none of us have been arrested for murder or any violent acts or been convicted of any felonies (unless there is something my brother's and those cousin's aren't telling me........).

We played lawn darts and none of us lost an eye. We had wood burning kits and science lab kits with real chemicals in the box. None of us were ever burned and we never blew up anything too terribly big. I don't count my little brother's little hut in our back yard as "too terribly big". I had an Easy Bake oven that I was allowed to use with no supervision, and I mean absolutely no supervision. I used to make little cakes for my sweet dad to eat all the time. He always lovingly ate every single crumb and applauded my culinary skills. My dad also used to buy me those pink Barbie Party-All-Night plastic high heels to play dress up in. To this day, I am a shoe hound and love a good pair of heels though I have graduated from plastic these days.

One time when we were really young...so young that I couldn't venture to guess our ages, it actually snowed a little tiny bit at our house. My neighbor's mom had us to collect a bowl of snow and she made Snow Ice Cream. It had raw eggs, sugar and vanilla in it and in my minds eye I remember it being terrific. These days no one, including me probably, would ever dream of eating such a thing as snow off the ground and raw eggs. Somehow we survived though I blame my dislike of eggs on the snow ice cream incident.

Things really have changed tremendously in just my lifetime. I understand the reasoning behind most things, but other's I'm a little lost on now and again. I just know, what I know, what I know.......a little dirt ain't gonna kill ya.....even if you eat it. Please don't eat dirt though okay?

The Just Vent, Rant of Whatever.......

The picture above was taken during really strange weather last evening at the new lovenest. It was cloudy, windy, we were under a tornado watch and the sky was very ominous. Firefighter friend, Cousin Four and I looked up into the sky and saw the edge of this beautiful rainbow. I hope that you can see it too....it was a little dark. I say that the rainbow is a sign that Prince and I will be very happy in our new home.

I found this recipe in a book dated 1913. I thought it was a little different to say the least.

TOPEKA TABERNACLE BIBLE CAKE:

Blend 2 tbsps Amos, 4:5 with 2 cups Jeremiah, 6:20. Cream one cup Judges, 5:25/ Gradually beat in 4 cups First Kings, 4:22 and 6 medium Jeremiah, 17:11. Add 2 tbsps First Samuel, 24:23, 3 cups Numbers, 17:18, 3 cups First Samuel, 30:22, half cup of Judges, 4:19, good tsp of Second Chronicles, 9:9 and a pinch of Leviticus, 2:13.
Bake at 300 degrees until a skewer comes out clean. Frost if desired.

My daughter called me last night to tell me that her stepmum is going to be a Mardi Gras Queen this year. She knew that I would find it hysterical and of course she was right. Believe me, I'm anything but bitter. I'm glad that I've gotten to the point in life where pretty much everything amuses me. I'm sure that she and the ex are in their element. I hope the woman has enough self esteem left in her to pull it off. I can't wait to tell the jellybean girl. She will surely laugh as well because she knows how their pretend world spins and turns in it's own little vortex. By the way, just so's you know that I can stand my own, I'm the Fiesta Queen AND the Pie-Crust Queen this year. Thank you for your support kind friends!

I found the funniest blog about dating. Not that I'm looking for a date, but if I were in the dating pool again I'd check this one out: www.senselessjewels.blogspot.com.

Hope everyone has a splendid weekend.......

Oh My Goodness....Words That Matter....

So, I'm riding through town last night on my way to see a puppy and I see three bumper stickers that really caught my eye. I wish that I had my camera with me at the time but I left it at the new lovenest......at least I think that's where I left it. Maybe it's because we are so tired right now that these bumper stickers actually became topics of conversation in our car last night........

#1 - "PACKAGING MATTERS"... I'm sorry, but huh? What kind of packaging? Who said packaging didn't matter? I know that I want my packages wrapped real pretty. I think packaging must have an inferiority complex or something......

#2 - "I(HEART)ZOMBIES"... I'm not really sure what this means. Are they talking about "Night Of The Living Dead" zombies or those voodoo zombies? I wanted to stop the driver of this vehicle and ask the driver but I didn't......

#3 - "GO VEGAN OR DIE!"...Die??? I think this is a rather bold message. Maybe even a little harsh? I already eat very little meat and now everytime I eat chicken finger's, I'll think that I may die. What exactly are chicken "finger's" anyway? Are they thumbs or pointer "fingers". I'm a little torn about this bumper sticker. Talk about getting to the (HEART) of the matter........

Well anyway, it was really late when we arrived to see the new pup. The is a yellow Lab mix that is about 4 months old and of course she is a rescue. She looks an awful lot like our friends The Foster Failure's pup named Dixie so Prince instantly fell in love with her. He said "She's a lovely girl and I want her name to be Sadie". We can't pick her up until the weekend. I'll post picture's of her next week. We're so excited and can't wait to bring her to her new home!!.

Tuesday's Touring Newnan.....City Of Homes....

It's Tuesday again, one of my favorite days of the week because I get to show places of interest that we love about our beautiful town. Prince and I painted all day long yesterday at the new lovenest. Needless to say, I'm feeling a little lackluster this morning!! We are headed back over to have another go at it today. We are actually making a lot of progress over there. It already looks like a different house entirely. Oh, I'm digressing.......here are a few snaps of place and things that we saw this last week while taking little drives.......

This is my personal favorite!! This sign made Prince laugh out loud and say (mind you, you have to be hearing this in his very British accent..) "See there, I told yall all (Brit speak for yall) that The King was still alive! You should learn to listen to me more often Reggie Girl". Ummm...whatever.

The Major Convenience Store off of Hwy 16. It's not JUST convenience.....it's "major" convenience.!!

The Old Tin Gin, old cotton gin and store on Hwy 16 complete with Marlboro Red signs gracing either side of the moniker. Gotta love that.

This is an Indian Chief carved with a chain saw in someone's front yard in Sargent, Georgia. I think this is amazing and I love the old replica of the covered wagon, without the cover mind you, beside it. I love this yard everytime I see it because it's so very Americana.

I hope you enjoyed this little tour of our slice of heaven here in beautiful Newnan, Georgia.

Organic Gardening and Moving In February

Prince and I are moving into our new lovenest!! This week we are painting. Thankfully Auntie Mom and Cousin Sis are helping. Saturday, we picked some beautiful, warm colors that we think will make our new place feel very homey. I also have to put my veggies and herbs that I have been gently babying into the earth so that by spring they will be ready to harvest. My garden spot is quite large and I can't wait for summer for sweet corn, tomatoes, squash anad zuchinni!!

This is my Flatleaf Parsley, with a little Greek Oregano over to the left.

Early Divider Broccoli....can't wait for this to be ready......

My fragrant Rosemary smells so good that I tempted to eat it by itself.

These are my early Scarlett Red Globe Radishes. Prince loves radishes, I'm just kind of, eh?, about them. But a lot of people like them so I think I'll sell a lot of them.

We definately have our work cut out for us this week, no? Life's a journey.....we're on it!!

Some Things I've Learned So Far....

Well, it's Sunday again. Time for a deep and heartfelt post I do think. You know, I may be midlife, menopausal and make ALOT of mistakes, but every day I find that I still have so much left to learn. I have so many questions about life that are still unanswered.

But still , I think that I have come a long way from that confused woman who left an abusive relationship in the middle of the night with what I could fit into an Oldsmobile not too terribly many years ago. Allowing people to treat me badly was an old pattern of mine that was hard to break. That all seems like yesterday and yet it feels like a hundred years ago as well. I would like to share a few things that I have learned thus far (which isn't very much I'm afraid)......

*15 years ago, if I had not already cried myself to sleep by 10:00 p.m. then I was having a panic attack instead......

*I strive every day to accept and celebrate the differences that we all have as
people. Before, I think I missed out on some really cool and beautiful people that
I could have gotten to know better.......

*Your children will repeat the behaviour that they learn from you because it's what they know. Trust me on this one.........

*If I love you......love me back.......isn't that the way it's supposed to work?...

*I'm just like everybody else....just trying to find my place in this world. The book "I'm Okay, You're Okay" is a book I go back to more often these days.....

*Honor what you feel, don't shove it way down deep inside. It's much easier to just
go ahead and deal with it now than later......

*I used to date guys who were probably voted "most likely to commit a felony" in my
younger days. Not the ones who merely had too many tattoo's, drank excessively or were drug dealer's...but the edgy type. I've since learned that what looks good to
you may not necessarily be good for you. The only thing I ever got from those kinds of guys were hurt feelings.........

*I don't listen to sad depressing songs about unrequited love any longer. I want to hear songs about people or love who actually made it!! Or at least something happy, uplifting or that just catches my fancy 'just because I like how it sounds'.....

*I really try to only allow myself about 30 minutes of sadness/self pity at any one time (TRY being the key word here). It doesn't change anything or help the situation. It's a waste of my energy and I have much better things to do with my time like weed my garden or sit with Prince and watch 2 1/2 men.......

*I've learned to try to have a little fun in my life and that you can't take every little thing so damned seriously all the time! Hey, try to aim a fan at someone you love and throw a little jello in it!! Trust me...a good time will be had by at least one of you. Lighten up and gift yourself with laughter......

*If Jesus can turn water into wine then just maybe he can take my mess and make a message with it.........

Happy Valentine's Day......I'm Not Gloating!!!...???

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone. Whether you're a couple or "in-between" being a couple, this is a day to remember love.

Happy Valentine's Day to my animals. Life could never be the same without you Ellie, Sophie and Scully. You light up my life every single day!!

Who doesn't just love a conversation heart? Every year, I buy a box for Prince and one for me to have as mine all mine. It is so nostalgic and like eating a little piece of love from your childhood.

Then, let's not forget our love for balloons, cupid (stoo-pid cupid stop picking on me!! and how can you not love a baby wearing a nappy armed with a bow and arrow??) and chocolates. This time of year even a box of those cheap chocolates in a heart shaped box taste like L~O~V~E!!

Hope everyone has a very Happy, Valentine's Day. Prince and I are going to an 80's themed Valentine's Dance at our local pub with friends. A good time is guaranteed for all.
