Surprise at Santa Fe Cattle Company!!!!

This is my daughter and me with the surprise!!!

This is a mural painted on the side of The Santa Fe Cattle Company that my daughter and I thought was hilarious. Redneck tea? May be good though it can't compare to Cousin Davy's sweet tea which is requested from as far away has Ohio.

I loved this old beat up truck that graced the entrance of The Santa Fe Cattle Company. Neither of us had been there before and the food, atmosphere and the company of my daughter was fantastic.

Yesterday afternoon, I went to Alabama to meet my daughter Miss Nan for lunch. You may remember Miss Nan from a couple of earlier blog posts. We were meeting half way between our house in Georgia and her house in Troy to have a nice lunch and just see each other for a few hours. This picture is the sign that greeted me when I crossed the State line into Alabama.

Then Miss Nan let me in on her little, or should I say BIG surprise. Her boyfriend of two years had given her an engagement ring the night before. It was a lovely and elegant ring. She practically glowed as she was telling the story of how her now fiance proposed. It was a really sweet story. I was a little shocked to say the least. I told her that if this is what makes her happy and she loves this man, then she has Prince's and my support. We will stand with her, beside her and watch her when she marries because she belongs to us. Today, our lunch tasted like love.

Anyway, this is all making me feel really old. Really old AND tired. All that I can think of right now is "I need to be sure to use extra moisturizer from now on" and "What the hell am I going to wear?". She says that they are going to be engaged for a little while before marrying which is a relief. I need a little time to absorb all of this for a little while. My youngest.....my baby girl, is getting married. I didn't cry though because cowgirls don't cry. Wait, I'm not a cowgirl I'm a smalltown city girl!!

  1. That's how my mom felt too. Then my engagement lasted for three years. And she was begging me to finally get married!

  2. Not sure how I found your blog but thought I'd say hello. Plus, wanted to say how cool I think it is that you are raising money for a no kill shelter. We r animal lovers ourselves - currently have 2 wiener dogs, one which we adopted from a no-kill rescue agency.

there are a couple more posts but I don't wanna put you to sleep. My Dad found this place, where a guy stashes all these trucks and slowly restores some of them. It's amazing!

I'm off to bed, my little chickadee. Redneck tea! right on!

  4. Congrats on your daughter's coming marriage! My eldest is 17 now and I can barely imagine her graduating high school, let alone being married. I'm still reeling over the fact that my baby brother has a wife and family of his own now!!

  5. Not sure if I should say congrats or not on the engagement. Your daughter is thrilled, but Mom is sounding a bit less then that. :-) Can't say as I blame you, I would not want to lose any of my chickadees yet! As for feeling old, everyone told me that turning 50 was the most awful thing in the world, yet when I turned 50 a little over a year ago, I thought that my life turned around. I love it! I felt relieved that I had finally made it, and wondered what all the hullabaloo was about! It ain't so bad!! Believe me. I am discovering more and more wonderful things in life, and most of them come from being over 50! Go figure. So slather on that skin lotion, take a deep breathe, and head right on into that next phase of your life, and that is one of having married kids! Maybe it might surprise you how wonderful it can be. When you find out, let me know too though, cuz I am pondering that phase of life too still!! :-) As for Redneck tea, I can not imagine how it must taste. Umm, might be worth a trip to Georgia/Alabama just to find out. LOL ciao, Debby

  6. Well CONGRATS on the impending wedding! It is pretty traumatic to have your baby get married. Moisturizer is a good fix lol

  7. I came back to tell you, after pondering since I left your blog early this a.m., that I've decided I'd MUCH rather resemble that gorgeous old truck than one of those pin-ups in your side bar. True story.

  9. Hello, thankyou for the comments on my blog, and I just wanted to say how amazing the idea is for raising money for a no-kill shelter through blog hits! It's not the animal's fault it's in the shelter; it's people's....
Anyway, fantastic idea. And I love your blog.

  21. Lady, I don't think I've seen an unbleached hair on my head in years...midlife crisis or whatever it is has been my companion for so many years I often refer to it as my innerchild. I just hit the 59 mark and to tell you the truth, I wouldn't change a day, a week, yes...maybe even a month. But all in all, I'm never worried what one thinks of age...just glad I've been gifted with the years.

Hope your daughter is the happiest bride on the planet when that big day comes. I'm so far from any of mine getting married that I swear I'm going to adopt a marriage minded child...just so I can argue over the guest list! Oh well...we all have our little quirks.

Thanks for your sharing your little corner of the planet...love the garden...mine won't be up and going till middle spring.
