Happy Birthday To My Sweet Son

Today, March 18, 2009, my son is turning 24 years old. He's my oldest and I just can't imagine for the life of me where twenty four years have gone so quickly.
I remember when I was a little girl.....the summers seemed like they lasted forever and my Daddy would tell me "Just you wait....wait until you're older.....time will fly by" and man was he right.

A LETTER TO MY SON

My dear, dear kiddo,

It seems just like yesterday when all three of us were sitting in this chair.
It seems like yesterday and yet it seems like twenty four years. Maybe more sometimes.
I told you when your sister was born that you were "a big boy now" so you would always say from thereafter "I'm a big boy now but when I grow little I'm going to be a football player". Anything that you said about growing up you always said "when I grow little". I thought that was the cutest thing ever. When your sister was born and I brought her home from the hospital you said "I never wanted a baby.....I only wanted one big black dog. That's all I wanted......one big black dog!!" Of course I got you your big black dog Doo-Wah and you loved her fiercly.
You loved playing baseball, taking Gor Chor Kung Fu and you were a straight A student who took all advanced classes. You learned to read when you were four years old. You made friends easily. You had a terrible temper and used to tease your sister mercessly.
Justin.......crazy things happen in life. Things that I don't understand. Things that you don't understand. Things that no one understands. One thing that I do understand and one thing that I know is true in this life is......that I love you. I love you with everything in me.
I hope that you have the best birthday ever. I can't believe that twenty four years of summers and winters have passed in our lives. Geez, sometimes I feel so old and sometimes I feel so young.

Gold and Silver have I none but worth a million is my son........

I long for you every day my son. I long for those days when you were big and going to grow little.

Your Mom

*************"You're gonna miss this, you're gonna want this back.
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast.
These are the good times, so take a good look around
You may not know it now. You're gonna miss this"**************

  13. What an amazing letter.....that def. should be printed and framed along with that photo. Beautiful.

My oldest son is almost 18 and like you....cannot even begin to imagine where the time is going. I try to cherish every day, even if it includes a stinky locker smelling bedroom or dirty dishes everywhere.

    Peace and love~

  39. Hi Reggie,
A real touching letter:) i'm just 3 years older than your son and what i'm going to tell you was i got married when i was 23rd and stayed apart from my parents was my most terrible thing in my 1st year of marriage all because of i really miss my mom and & dad. Even now....I can really felt how strong of your love towards your son here.
I believed this was the greatest birthday gift and the precious pic for him to remember:)

    Love to come by again!

  43. Reggie Girl...

Hope your son's birthday is only the beginning of the best days of his life. May they be enriched and cherished with the assurance that his mother loves him, not the same as the first moment he entered her life...but more!

I have a friend that once said, there is no greater love then that which a mother has for her child...and your letter is a testament to those words.

So happy birthday to your son, your husband, your daughter...and to you...the beginning of all his dreams.

    OWW/Claire

  51. I love Trace's song too, it touched my heart the first time I heard it. My son, and only child, turned 27 last fall. For some reason, 31 sticks in my mind as being a good age, and I'm speechless that my son is close to my "good age"!!! It doesn't seem real...

  52. Isn't it great watching beautiful kids grow up? Both my children have birthdays around now...
