Quiet Thoughtful Sundays: Churches and Temples

I love this montage of churches, temples and mosques. Whenever I go to another town, State or another country, the places of worship always catch my eye and attention. I always wonder what kinds of people worship in these places and what their beliefs are. I do quite a bit or reading on world religions because I find it fascinating. I enjoy reading the background of various religions whether they concur with my own convictions or not. I think sometimes that the only way that we could perhaps stop some of these holy wars is to seek to understand other peoples beliefs......maybe respect the fact that they have the right to beleive as they do and allow them to follow their own convictions. Of course, I'm not speaking of extremist groups that harm other's. I absolutely can't wrap my brain around any religion that harms other human beings in the name of God. Nothing will ever make me understand that.

Matthew Chapter 22 verses 36-39:
36: Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?
37: Jesus said unto him, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind".
38: "This is the first and great comandment".
39: "And the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself".

Wishing you an amazing quiet thoughtful Sunday.

  8. Hear, hear.

Had the opportunity to go to Florence some years ago. There is a really old little church there, the Baptistry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florence_Baptistry) built around 1100. You could feel the souls that had been bared there. The sandled or unshod feet that had trod the floor, knelt at the altar. An experience.

We are tribal critters. My tribe is better than yours, my state is better, I can speak the words in my profession and you can't, we will go to Heaven and you won't. But as thinking critters, we don't have to suffer under the evil aspects of those instincts, either.

  12. Thanks for popping by my blog! I love the churches, we went for a drive today and I captured a few myself. I love that here the churches are usually from sometime in the 1600-1700's. It makes you wonder how they managed to build them without modern technology!

  18. "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error. Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual."

And so shall you be healed.

  19. The most beautiful churces I have ever been fortunate enough to see were in Mexico City. I am not Catholic, but I felt such a calm come over me whenever I entered one of those AMAZING churches!

  21. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I would LOVE to donate to the Humane Society through hits on my blog. Do you just do that yourself, or is it something you set up? I only can help them by adopting, encouraging others to adopt, or donating money. If I actually go to walk dogs, I'd end up adopting every single one. And my husband would not be pleased. So, please, tell me how you're doing it.

  22. These buildings were made to last weren't they?

Thank you for your sweet comments! I especially loved what you said "my home sings because my heart sings." What a lovely quote!

  23. I'm glad that you posted about a great reminder to all of us- basic respect for our individual beliefs. I'd love for you to come see some of the LDS temples and the architecture uniqueness of each one!

First time visitor here, and I'm glad it's about this post. Thanks!

  24. I have the same trouble wrapping my brain around religions that condone violence as well. It may be an ethno-cultural bias on my behalf, but if you preach violence, I'm not with you.

  28. I'm Catholic but I don't have a sturdy faith. I'm still confused, I believe I'll get to understanding when the time comes - my calling, that is.

And same here, I like to read the background of Religions that I encounter. Some info is shocking. You're right, if people would only respect each other when it comes to Religion and just do the humane way, then we would all be fine!

I agree with TERRY, I love your Pin Up Girl app! I love seeing new girls everyday!

  29. Hi Reggie. I'm fascinated by all religions too. I love to read everything I can about every faith. Thanks for sharing all your great photos.

  31. Hi RG, how are you feeling? I have been thinking of you. Your church post today is another nice one. I love the churches too, especially over here with their high pointed steeples rising above the rest of the town. If I could I would stop every where I go and get pictures of them, but i fear hubby dear is not too pleased when we are on the highway and I want him to stop every 10 minutes. So I stay content to just enjoy them as we drive past knowing that one of these days I will have my camera ready and get a pic on the way thru! :-) As for the Golden Girls, I just love Blanche too. I read the book the Rue Maclanahan wrote, and it was just as great! Take care. Debby
