Friday Shoot-Outs and Food Y'all All!!

It's Friday so time for a little Shootin. Our gang's subject this week is "My Hometown Native Foods and Resturants" chosen by the lovely Loida in China. I could not have asked for a better theme because this week was the Taste Of Newnan in my hometown. That's a couple of the fine fellows from Newnan Utilities grilling up some burgers at the top. Every local resturant, church or caterer gather's and Mainstreet Newnan sells tokens for samples of delicious food. Prince and I walked around Court Square, ran into old friends, made new friends and ate far too much. As always, I had a hard time choosing which photos to post!! I couldn't even post them all or else this would go on into the weekend.

Ready? Let's go......

Let's begin with some Peanut Butter and Jelly wings from the culinary arts school at West Georgia Technical college. Looks like this lady gives them a thumbs up .......

Uncorked, a truly fine wine spot in town with great specials.......

Hot Boiled Peanuts!! It's totally a southern thing. Remember these Patty?......

Pretty, sweet girls having a little shaved ice.........

"Walking Tacos" being prepared by Trinity Life and Worship Center. They asked Prince and I to visit their new church and perhaps we will........

Sweet potato fries bubbling. After cooking they'll be sprinkled with a bit of sugar and cinnamon as a finishing touch. We loved fried food right? That's the just way we roll in the South. Don't get much better than these tasty treats.......

Sand candy....you make your own piece of artwork and then eat it on the go.......

A really sweet couple having a little sample while strolling around Court Square....

An American favorite......cotton candy (pure sugar of course......glad that's someone elses cute kiddo who will later be bouncing off the walls..)

Elk Osso Bucco was featured by Andre's Off The Square. Andre's is always a culinary explosion of taste..........

Delicious pumpkin bread featured by Michelle from "Your Chef To Go". Prince and I tasted this delightful goodie and we were......well......delighted........

Prince sneaking in a little sweetie as he calls it from Broad Street Sweets......

Sprayberry's Barbeque......a tradition in Newnan. Family owned and operated, they've been here all of my life and are quite famous round these parts. We do love our barbeque here in the South........

The chef from the Coweta Club ready to serve up his taste tickling fare.........

Fresh tomato and mozzarella salad with fresh Rosemary from my garden......

Dessert at Cousin Sis's house. We call it chocolate stuff and it makes my hips sooo very happy..........

Strawberry Cobbler........this made me think of Strwaberry Girl who is joining us this week for gang activities and festivities......

10 East Washington's front porch for al fresco dining. Always a unique dining occasion with Chef George while you watch the locals walk about........

Andre's Off The Square Resturant and Martini Bar.....wonderful meals and add a dirty martini and I'm there. Often.......

Bubba the Bear from 92.5, one of Prince's favorite spots on the radio, and some groupie. They play great music on that station and they also had a band there that "forced" Prince and I to cut a little rug on our way out and to Cousin Four's baseball game. "Dancing in the Streets" by Martha Reeves and the Vandella's comes to mind. Cousin Four's team won their game won by the way..........

Now, how cute is this kiddo? Having a french fry with ketchup while watching his brother play baseball. I'd personally like to thank France for these goodies. (My thighs would NOT like to thank France for these goodies!) Don't get much better than this than does it? Until I have human grand-kiddos I'm just going to spoil everyone elses kids. They're only little once and you will long for them everyday when they are gone. Trust me on that one......

Thanks for participating or visiting "Friday Shoot-Out's" with me in Newnan, Georgia. Please join us for Friday Shoot-Outs...any and everyone is welcome and encouraged to join our gang and throw a few gang signs with us. We want to see your town. The only thing we're waiting for here in my town of beautiful Newnan, Georgia is you........

****The phrase "STEADY ON"....my darling grandmother used to tell me that the song "Onward Christian Soldiers" meant to keep moving on despite any and everything that life throws in you path and to have faith. So, I do.****

Hope everyone has a weekend filled with much love, joy and laughter and......

Steady On
Reggie Girl

  1. I'm first or you aren’t out of bed yet!!! French fries are as American as apple pie - the French are appalled by deep fried anything. I love sweet potato fries. Camillo loves Osso Bucco maybe I could convince him to come visit you. now I need to go eat breakfast - you made my stomach drool.

  5. Hooray for Newnan's presence of mind to hold Taste of Newnam before the shootout. Our Strawberry Festival and Grits Festival are both next week. Boo hoo. Lucky Bubba. Peanut butter and jelly chicken wings? Whew. My tongue is tied in knots trying to imagine it.

  9. ...I'm on my way! Everything looks awesome..made me long for a day on the town..festivals, etc! The one time I had boiled peanuts is when I was in Georgia. I'd always wondered about them and we were somewhere(?) between Fort Benning and Macon and I saw a stand on the side of the road. I stopped to get peaches (of course!) and boiled peanuts!

  23. Reggie Girl, you have certainly captured the "flavor" of Newnan.

I,m licking the screen (Bagman style). You have me wanting to run right down to Newnan, eat all your food, and shake the hands of everyone there.

I love the tomato and mozzarella dish, the sweet potato fries, and the yummy sweets (my weakness).

Nothing says, "Hometown" like a good old fashioned cookout. Nice touch. Also liked the way you added people into the mix.

    Another super-duper tour of Newnan.

You did good, girl! Now let me screen off so I can visit the next town.

  28. Looks like a great day in the South today. Great photo's and you are welcome to come up and spoil my two any time you want up in the Northern States...

    ReplyDelete
  29. And you said you lived in a small town? My five acre spread...the one that is attached to me...would have to be reinsured for 10 if I lived anywhere near this fine food!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm drooling over all of that wonderful food....except the boiled peanuts!! I never did warm up to those....

Great photos, and what a NEAT grandmother you had. Words to live by, indeed.

  36. Look at all that great food. The kid inside of me was eyeing that shaved ice. Your community looks happy and well balanced.

  37. Oh I loved it, so diverse.

Peanut butter and jelly chicken? ONLY in America haha...

The sand candy has me puzzled?

AND ...what is next Friday's topic????

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hey Reggie, I did a Friday shoot out over on my blog. I did the best with what we have in our town. It isn't as fun or yummy looking as your town. But it was funn!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hi, thanks for stopping by! I really enjoyed the tour of your hometown. If we ever drive through I'll be sure to stop! I think I'll go make some sweet potato fries.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I completely forgot about doing this today. Please forgive me & chalk it up to yet another *senior moment*. Gah! Maybe next week I can remember if I leave myself a note.

Anyway, what an awesome week of food. I have GOT to get myself to Newnan someday soon. You people know how to do food!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Great photos! The "chocolate stuff" looks like quite a significant trifle--wouldn't mind a taste test of that!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Like so many said, great post.

You have an unfair advantage. I protest. Exmore does not have a big shindig like this until September when they have the town wide yard sale with lots of stalls and different food. Guess I will have to do mine in September. Alas.

  43. There's nothing like a small town cookout! There's nothing like a small town girl! There's nothing like small town hospitality! Your blog has them all. It is good to see you again! Great posts! Come see us! Gordon

  44. Ooh, those Hot Boiled Peanuts are just ideal when you don't have anything to do but munch on those!

We love Cotton Candy here in the Philippines too. Anything sweet! Glad to know we are alike in some things!

I especially love how that Chocolate Stuff cake looks like! Now that's a lot of Calories I'm always willing to digest LOL!

Finally glad to know what Steady On means!

  45. Reggie, dang it, I have been drooling over that Strawberry thingy all day... and I keep coming back to contemplate eatting it. Too bad it's probably gone, and only the reflection of former strawberry glory exists...

Note to self: Invent proper strawberry thing to eat in estatic rapture!!

  46. Lovely to discover that there are still hedonists among us!

    ReplyDelete
  47. What a post! Hot boiled peanuts! Yummy. It's been awhile. Hope to catch the next shoot out!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Sweet tater fries? Never had the chance to try 'em them must be the greatest! I'd go for that in a heart beat.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I envy everyone the delicious food, but also envy them the good weather that lets them get outside to enjoy it!

    I am wracked with envy!

  50. I'll have one of those walkin' tacos with a side of sweet potato fries...um um good! Reggie Girl, how do you stay so slim and trim around all that good food?

    ReplyDelete
  51. OH man! I missed the Friday Shoot-out!

How can I know what's coming up (subject-matter wise) for the next shoot out? I'd love to join in, but I can be more prepared if I know what we're shootin'!

Thanks and sorry I missed it!

  52. I love love love the quote from your Grandmother. Love it.

That chocolate stuff looks amazing. If I could get some of that in Michigan, I would absolutely have to live by the mantra: "Life is short, eat dessert first and make it sweet."

Did I mention how very much I love that quote?

I'm listening.....and while you're at it PLEASE make me laugh!!
