Friday Shoot-Outs - My Town Architecture

TGIF and time for our weekly gang project. If you are a new member or a first time shooter, welcome....we're all so happy to have you participating in our project.

Jen chose architecture as this weeks subject. I've chosen a hodgepodge of things that involve architecture Of some form. I used a lot of old buildings, houses and barns as my interpretation for this week. For some reason old places always pique my interest. I wonder about their history and what has taken place in these buildings in years gone by. Gigi has chosen next weeks theme and I've listed it at the bottom. You know guys, I think we're doing far more than merely taking pictures in our "Friday Shoot-Outs........we're recording the life of our cities in photographs.......

"I believe man must be free, both in spirit and society, that he must build strenght into himself, affirming the 'enourmous beauty of the world' and acquiring the confidence to see and to expree his vision. And I believe in photography as one means of expressing this affirmation, and of achieving an ultimate happiness and faith" ~~~~ANSEL ADAMS

Darling gigi@afterthoughts has chosen next weeks theme to be gardens. That will be a beautiful subject as well. So far everyone has chosen great subjects and we are so happy that so many new member's have joined our gang.

  1. I always enjoy looking at the pictures that you take of your town. And I'm sure all of your loyal followere do as well. If you happen to notice a lot of tourists flocking to your town this summer......it may be your fault. hahaha!

  2. I love the older buildings, particularly, like they have come out of the earth and are going back into the earth. And the blue bus and blue door. The robot man made me think that sometime several weeks from now a potential theme might be -- things that look like people but aren't.

  4. A great selection of photos! Like you, I like imagining the lives of the people who sat on the porches of these old homes in the shade of the big trees. Thanks for including me this week, it was a lot of fun.

  5. Hey, gal. I so love how you have captured the feel of the Old South. I don't even have a favorite today. I love them all.

Since beginning our shootouts, you have become quite a photographer. Now, if I could only learn how to cook.

I am going to check out each photo a little better.

  7. Well, now, I do have two favorites. The fence is awesome and the towel hanging on the line is great. What makes it so great is the Christmas lights and the towel right in the center of the door. I can't make out the label on the door. What does it say?

  8. You are right I love the old doors and windows. That blue screen door, I bet it was slammed over and over. I always remember some one holloring don't slam the door! I wonder what they had for dinner, I bet it smelled good as my grandma's kitchen.
The black and whites at the first are stunning.

I might have a rough time with gardens since the snow just melted and it freezes still at night, but I will give it my best shot. Looking forward to see what I can come up with.

  14. Hi ReggieGirl, hope all is well with you. I have been thinking of you of late. Seems I don't get on over here as much as I used to, and I am missing you big time. :-) Anyway, love the photos once again, I like that big house with the lovely green tree right in the front yard, and the other house with the gazebo. I have always wanted one of them! But I have to say my favorite picture was the next to last of the tiny house with the porch and the chairs on it, how old and tiny and delightful is that. something you just might see in a movie scene! take care, Debby

  23. As in all towns, we can always find interesting architecture.. There are gorgeous and well-kept homes --and then there are those that are run-down and in need of maaintenance!!! That's just life, isn't it???? We are like architecture, Reggie, aren't we??? Some of us are well-groomed, and some of us are desperately in need of HELP... ha

Have a wonderful day and week. I'll post one more time in the morning--but then I'll be gone for about 9 days.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  31. I always wonder about old buildings and homes, too. Some of them really give me the creeps, they hold ghosts of the past people who lived in them. Or maybe I just have a wild imagination!

  32. I just love the first house, and the 2nd shot you took further down at a different angle. My, what stories could that house tell? It looks like it is just chock-full of history.

And I hope you are doing better lady! Hugs to you.

  33. It did my heart good to see, what we refer to as "The Big House" on your blog. There was a second house, called "The LIttle House" on the property also. The Little House is where 2 bachaelors lived until their deaths. One was in his 70's, the other was 81. The Big House was their parents house. Oh the history in that building.

Don't get too many people liking the old house. It will make it even harder to take it down if I have too. Once it is cleaned out, we will have someone tell us how much of it , if any can be saved and get an estimate. Most of the townsfolks do not want it destroyed but it is so far gone.
Reggie Girl, you know so much, know of any grants for restoring old homes like that?
The house in the first picture was built in 1891. It was originally the Parsonage for the Methodist Church.

Thank you again for posting the pictures, Dad said it brought a tear to his eye.

    Love ya.

  34. You have so many old buildings, I hope the fourth from the last is still being inhabitated.

It attracted me with the metal bars. In Auckland, at the public parks, the council rents out the land to farmers to graze their sheep or cattles. Those metal bars prevent the animals from crossing the road.

I am, wondering what those bars are for in your photo. Surely an owner with a nice house would not have animals near his lovely house. LOL

Thanks for commenting about the Auckland Museum.

Good luck to your dogs. and more "clicking"
